FAQ

Answers for clergy, office staff, volunteers, and synagogue leaders.

These questions focus on the practical parts of running the system day to day: what the TV needs, how the magic links behave, where media lives, and how alerts work.

What is the free no-registration option?

Use a link like tv.zmanim.tv/us90210 for a free U.S. ZIP-based screen with no registration.

What can we use as the display hardware?

Any smart TV with an internet browser can open the synagogue screen link and run the display.

Is the free option only for U.S. ZIP codes?

Yes. The free no-registration path uses the us plus ZIP format, like tv.zmanim.tv/us90210.

Does the TV need a password or admin session?

No. The TV uses a public read-only URL with a safe six-character code. Only the dashboard uses the admin magic link.

What happens if someone signs up twice with the same email?

The intended flow is to resend the same access details so staff are not juggling multiple dashboard links for the same synagogue.

Why would we sign up if the free ZIP screen already works?

Signup is for the full synagogue version: logo, rotating photos, rabbi message, donation QR, alerts, dedicated TV code, and dashboard control.

Can we upload our logo, slideshow images, and QR code?

Yes. Upload the logo, slideshow images, and donation QR in the dashboard and they will appear on the synagogue screen.

What are the upload limits?

The v1 media plan uses a two megabyte limit per picture. That keeps uploads predictable and helps the public display stay snappy on shared building networks.

Can the donation QR disappear on Shabbat and holidays?

Yes. The QR display can follow the holiday-aware toggle so it hides automatically when the Hebcal flag says it should not appear.

How often does the screen reload?

The main planned reloads are after local sunset, after local midnight, and after an admin publishes a change or sends an alert that triggers a full screen refresh.

What if weather or another upstream feed is unavailable?

In v1 the system does not force a fallback card. If an external feed is unavailable, that section can simply remain blank instead of showing stale content.

Can one synagogue use multiple TVs?

Yes. The TV route is read-only, so the same code can be opened on multiple smart TVs for that synagogue without changing the admin workflow.

Is the super admin dashboard public?

No. The intended v1 posture is local-only access so monitoring and ZIP-targeted emergency broadcasts are kept off the public internet surface.
